Technology, hardware, software

To be a sales rep in radio, I have to know Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point, all of which I'm fairly knowledgeable about. I need word, excel and access to organize my cliets, and power point to create presentations for their needs. I'm not sure but I would think that there is some kind of software that would help with math and sales portion. Knowledge of basic computers and internet also helps. I also need to know how arbitron rating systems work so I can accurately come up with a rate, and an understanding of how the technology used to figure out who's listening also helps. To help with copies, I will need to have an understanding of Adobe Audition and the sound board. I also have to know how to write copies, and edit commercials and spots.

I didn't think that there was a lot of technology involved in sales, but when I sat and thought about everything I had to do, I realized that there are things, computer-wise, that I need to be ready as a sales representative.

3 Job Findings

http://www.nassaubroadcasting.com/employment.htm

With the Nassau Broadcasting website, they had employment that they needed all on one page for all the different states and radio stations. From this website I found multiple job opportunities as a account executives and some for exprience even said welcomed, but not necessary. The only problem was they didn't need any for the radio stations in Pennsylvania or New Jersey; they were all Vermon, Massachusettes, Maine, and New Hampshire.

Like Nassau, Clear Channel had the employments they need on one page. I found the need for 3 account executives, 1 not stating the experience needed, 1 needing prior sales experience, and the other needing 2 years experience. Again, they weren't ones in the Jersey area; two were in Florida, and one in Utah. Also, this company was very specific about what the requirements were for their Utah radio station. With the two you the person also must have outstanding marketing/presentation skills, strong organizational skills, exceptional computer literacy, and must possess understanding of ratings services.

Beasley Broadcasting didn't show the employment they needed on the websites like the others did. I had to search the areas, station call letters, or formats that I wanted, go to their websites and find the employment opportunities there. I searched Philadelphia and found WXTU http://wxtu.com/index.php?page=12 and Wired 96.5 http://www.wired965.com/index.php?page=101. XTU needs account executives with 2 years experience and the same with Wired. XTU's website was easy to find the employment link, but Wired is hard and I had to use the search bar. I decided also to search North Carolina, because I might being going to school there next fall and there was a radio station 95.7 WKML and they were looking for account executives too.

I found there are a lot of sales jobs to be found on radio websites and company websites.

Searching for jobs for radio is really hard on these websites, especially in sales. Maybe I was searching wrong, but I don't think they offer enough for me to want to use them again. Monster was the best website out of all of them. Careerbuilder was one I also found a couple on. All of the others offered nothing to help me with this assignment.

Future Job

The future job that I want to have in media is a sales representative for radio, or an on-air personality. I'm leaning towards a sales rep because it's good money and it's fun. I also love helping people. I want to help them get more traffic into their business and share what they have to offer the radio listeners. It's also pretty creative, because you have to come up with presentations and events for the clients.

If I can't get into sales, I would love to do on-air personality because I talk a lot and I feel it would put that to good use. I also think it would be fun to go to events and entertain people. Even on the show, I'd get to entertain people and listen to music. It's a great combination.
